Frequently asked questions on Water Filtration
Why do we need to drink water?
Water has been called the ‘Cradle of Life’ because all living organisms require water to survive. Each body cell is bathed in fluid and the basic substance of each cell, cytoplasm, is itself largely water. Water is the body’s most abundant and important compound making up 75% of body weight.
Why aren’t fizzy drinks good for you?
The basic process involves the injection of carbon dioxide into the drink after removing oxygen. The removal of oxygen puts the drink under pressure that allows more carbon dioxide to be put in. Remember carbon dioxide is a waste product we breathe out in order to fill our lungs with oxygen! So why put a waste product back in our bodies especially into our stomachs!
Why isn’t tap water good enough to drink?
Tap water contains many impurities that you cannot see with the naked eye such as heavy metals, chemicals, hormones, herbicides, pesticides, nitrates and of course chlorine. Chlorine is added to the water to keep down the levels of bacterial growth that is good for sanitary purposes but not so good for in the insides of our bodies.
What’s wrong with a filter jug?
The filter jug is the system of the last century. People are so aware of the inadequacies of the 'jug' filter system, taking space on the worktop or in the fridge, forgetting to fill the jug and have to wait for the water to filter through, and remembering to buy and change the filter once a month.
Surely bottled water is better to drink?
These mineral or spring waters can be aggressive on the digestive system. . Many of them have a very high sodium content that is not good for our bodies. Remember when these waters were first discovered, they were bathed in and a thimble full taken by mouth. The minerals were gently absorbed by the skin not by the digestive system. Also you have to buy this water, carry it home and then dispose of yet more plastic bottles!
Are the kettles with in built filters good?
Your kettle is boiled many times through the day so the filter in these kettles have to withstand constant boiling and yet filter the water at the same time. Jury is out on this one!
How come the filters can last for a year?
The carbon block is pharmaceutical grade carbon that ensures a 99.9% filter removal of impurities in most instances, and a longer life, therefore the filters only need changing once a year.
How will I know when my filter needs changing?
Aquasafe will send you a yearly reminder so you don’t even have to think about it!
How easy is it to install the water filtration?
Very simple! We use a self-plumb system with a ‘third tap’. There is no need for any pipes to be cut as we use a self-piercing saddle clamp. The saddle clamp is placed on the cold water supply pipe under the sink in the kitchen. It is designed to first pierce the pipe then to become a diverter valve for the water to enter into to your filter. The pure water is delivered through a separate tap, the ‘third tap’, whenever you require it.
If chlorine is bad for us what happens when we shower or take a bath in it?
Half of our daily chlorine exposure is from showering and bathing. Not only do we absorb chlorine through our skin but also through our lungs. Inhalation is a much more harmful means of exposure, as the chlorine gas (chloroform) we inhale, travels directly into our blood stream. Chlorine vapours are known to be a strong irritant to the sensitive tissue and bronchial passages inside our lungs. The inhalation of chlorine is a suspected cause of asthma and bronchitis, especially in children; such cases have increased 300% in the last two decades.
Do the shower filters have to be installed?
No they don’t, they quite simply screw on to your original hose of the shower.
How long does a shower filter last?
A filter will last for 6 months.
